Why Do We Dance?
By Amaryia Woods "Why do you dance ?" is a question dancers have to answer often. Everyone has their share of opinions on why they dance and do it willing-fully. At Greater White Stone MBC, our youth dancers dance to spread an inspirational message. "I dance because it sends a message about life, sorrow, pain, and happiness--because it shows my ability not to just dance but to get fulfillment of a message-that I am helping someone overcome a difficult situation." ---Laquita Jones-White Most of you might think the youth participate in praise or mime dancing because of our parents. When we're younger, we don't have control over the way we praise God, or what we are to do in church. As teenagers, we have developed a passion for praising through dance. " I've been dancing with the praise ministry since I was first baptized here at age 7. I enjoy dancing. Earlier in my life I danced for my mom and grandma but now I dance for myself and God!"-Sancyrae Woods Our mime ministry is the newest addiction to our dance ministries. These young men have been recognized throughout the Greater Memphis and Mississippi area. It's always a pleasure to see young men doing what God has called them to do. " Dancing is fun for me and I enjoy doing it with my brothers. It's a way that I express myself to God. I don't like calling it dancing, I prefer two-stepping" -James Irvin. There you have it ! The youth of Greater White Stone MBC dance for various reasons. We all come together as one to spread our love for God through the melody and rhythms of a song. Even though, we all have different perspectives on why we dance, we all do it for God. |
