Pastor Roger Brown

Reverend Roger Raphael Brown, the Pastor of the Greater White Stone Missionary Baptist Church of Memphis, TN has been married to the former Emma J. Mills for more than 35 years and is the proud father of four children, LaKeela Marie, Jacqueline Betty, Raphael Vincent & Raquel Vernice, grandfather of  six, the father of two nephews, William & James by legal custody and has two sons-in-law, Antwane, and Kelvin.
 
Reverend Roger R. Brown acknowledged his Ministry in June of 1977 at the Conant Avenue United Methodist Church under the leadership of Reverend William E. Teague. He was licensed in the Ministry in 1982 at the St. James Missionary Baptist Church, Detroit, MI, under the leadership of Reverend Charles Nicks, Jr., where he served as Director of Christian Education, Youth Coordinator, Associate Minister .  Reverend Brown served as Associated Minister of Brentwood Baptist Church of Houston, TX under the leadership of the Reverend Dr. Joe Ratliff from 1986-87.  He also served as Associate Minister of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Westwood, Memphis, TN in 1988 under the leadership of the Reverend Dr. James L. Netters, where he was ordained in the ministry in in 1990. He served as Assistant Pastor of Mt. Vernon from 1990-1995, where he was Director of Men’s Ministry from 1996-2008.  In 2008, Reverend Brown co-pastored Mt. Gilead Ministries, Memphis, TN under the leadership of Bishop Charles E. Cartwright, where he was in charge of Teaching, Preaching, Director of Ministries, Director of the School of Wisdom, Implemented church software, and officers training program, new members program, church leadership conference.
 
Pastor Brown currently serves as the Director of Missions for the Progressive National Baptist Convention, Southern Region, the Vice Moderator of the West TN District Association, Second Vice Moderator of the Union Progressive Association. In his Ministerial Related Studies, Reverend Brown served as a Delegate to the Sunday School Congress of Christian Education, National Baptist Convention, USA Inc., and earned a Second Level Certificate from 1981 –1983.  From 1990 – 1997, Reverend Brown received a Second Level Certificate from the Progressive National Baptist Convention, Inc. From 1988-2008, he served as a Christian Training Institute Instructor at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church- Westwood. From 1990 to the present, Reverend Brown has attended the Leadership Network Seminar, Phoenix. AR, Promise Keepers, Dallas, TX and Promise Keepers, Memphis. TN (Ministers Task Force), Baptist Assembly of Free Spirit Churches where he served as Registrar, Full Gospel Baptist Churches, Gospel Music Workshop of America, Life Focus ’93 Memphis Steering Committee, Basic Life Youth Conflicts Seminar (Advance and Ministers Workshop, Trinity Hospice Care, Hampton Institute Minister’s and Choral Directors Seminary, Hampton University, and attended a variety of additional local workshops and conferences.
 
Reverend Brown is a graduate of LeMoyne Owen College, receiving a Bachelor of Business Administration and a minor in Social Work, he graduated cum laude in 2013, and is currently enrolled in the Masters of Divinity program at Memphis Theological Seminary.
 
On November 21, 2010, the Greater White Stone Missionary Baptist Church elected Reverend Roger R. Brown as the 5th Pastor in 85 years to served as leader of the congregation. He won the election by a landslide vote of the membership.
 
Since Reverend Brown has been pastor of Greater White Stone, the membership continues to grow by leaps and bounds. In 2016 under his leadership the church launched it's Community Development Corporation, "The Stone CDC" , for outreach and community development. The gospel is being preached, the Word of God being taught and souls are being saved. The Pastor has developed several ministries that are helping to build and strengthen the Body of Christ, he has appointed several members who were formerly called “bench members” to work in the church and they are doing so with much vigor and enthusiasm. Reverend Brown never forgets a face. He is a people’s person.
 
Reverend Brown’s favorite scripture is from Psalm 34….. “I will bless the Lord at all times. His praises shall continually be in my mouth.”
 
His favorite saying is by Jo Moutton . . . “Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning how to Dance in the Rain….”
